FC Twente avoids the Portuguese top club Benfica in the Europa League second qualifying round. The team of John van den Brom will face the winner of the duel between FK Vojvodina from Serbia and Ferencváros from Hungary. The Tukkers did not have a seeded status at the draw in Nyon, Switzerland, so it could have been a tough challenge. At the morning draw, where the number of possible opponents was reduced from nine to five, it was already clear that the Portuguese top club Benfica was avoided. FC Viktoria Plzen from the Czech Republic, Danish FC Midtylland, RSC Anderlecht from Belgium, and the winners of the duels between Qarabag FK from Azerbaijan and Vestri from Iceland and FK Vojvodina from Serbia and Ferencváros from Hungary remained an option. It was ultimately the winner of the latter duel. They will face each other in the first qualifying round of the Europa League on July 9 and 16. The first match in the second qualifying round will take place in Enschede and will be played on Thursday, July 23. A week later is the return. FC Twente must survive three qualifying rounds to qualify for the main tournament. If they lose, the Conference League qualifying rounds will still be an option.
